The Indigenous Talent Advisory Committee (ITAC)

ITAC is led by diverse Indigenous HR and recruitment professionals. Together, ITAC focuses on addressing structural barriers to the hiring and retention of Indigenous employees. Through the diverse, collective lived and professional experience of committee members, we work towards developing practical tools and recommendations to help organizations create more culturally inclusive hiring practices.

Boreala Management is honoured to support the work of the Indigenous Talent Advisory Committee by sponsoring the development of the tools and resources informed by Indigenous voices and expertise. Our role is to help create space for these important conversations by providing administrative, logistical, and facilitation support for this free initiative, while ensuring that Indigenous perspectives remain at its center.

Purpose

Most recruitment practices today are rooted in Western models, which create barriers through narrow expectations, minimum qualifications, and values that do not reflect Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing.

The Indigenous Talent Advisory Committee helps organizations build more culturally inclusive recruitment practices by:

  • Developing practical, culturally grounded recruitment tools and resources
  • Identifying and addressing barriers that limit access to Indigenous talent.
  • Integrating Indigenous perspectives, knowledge, and ways of being throughout the recruitment process.
  • Supporting organization reflection and learning through an Indigenous lens.
  • Providing self-assessment tools to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement.
  • Sharing practical guidance to strengthen Indigenous recruitment and retention

The work is informed by the lived experience, perspectives, and discussions of its members. It does not reflect the views, positions, or policies of members’ employers or affiliated organizations. The content and tools developed through this initiative are intended for shared learning and community benefit as efforts to bridge the gap in inclusive hiring practices for Indigenous candidates and teams. No intellectual property is being created through this work, and all resources are made freely available for download support these reflections within your organizations or practices.
